Free Summer Camp at Urban Think Bookstore

Wednesday March 25, 2009
Page 15, a nonprofit literacy arts program in Downtown Orlando will host its second annual Young Writers Camp this summer at the Urban Think! Bookstore (downtown’s only independent bookstore).  This five day camp runs over five weeks and is tailored to upcoming 1st graders through 8th graders.  This creative camp aims to help kids discover their own voice through activities like story-telling, bookmaking, a museum and park visit, writing songs with a professional musician, drawing cartoons and writing and shooting their own movie.

A portion of the students enrolled in the Page 15 summer camps are nominated by their teachers based on financial need and are sponsored by local individuals and businesses.  Due to the great interest in this creative summer camp, Page 15 is opening a portion of its enrollment to children and families who wish to take part in the creative writing  activities offered at this philanthropic camp.

Thanks for the information about this very creative and wonderful camp resource. Fantastic work! Likely you already have wonderful programming already designed. However, I wanted to offer you and your campers an additional resource for creative writing if there is a need. The resource is called Think It Ink It Publishing (www.thinkitinkitpublishing.com). We provide professionally illustrated wordless picture books, kids write the story and become authors. We have had MANY testimonials related to kids who struggle as writers who try our our play to learn approach to writing and LOVE it! Once they have written their own book using our scaffolded learning experience, reading becomes a whole different story! :) Let us know if you would like to talk further. All the best and enjoy the summer!
