Fantasy Fest 2009, Key West

Wednesday October 21, 2009

Villains, Vixens and Vampires - this year's theme for the outrageous annual celebration in Key West. The event begins October 23, 2009 with the Royal Coronation Ball where the King and Queen of Fantasy Fest will be chosen.

Each night promises to me more wild and extravagant than the night before as the celebration leads up to the Captain Morgan Fantasy Fest Parade where an expected 70,000 party goers from around the world will descend upon Duval Street.

So, what really goes on during this ten day celebration in Key West? Preview a few pictures from the event and find out how it was started. Curious? Then check out one of the many live web cams that are located around Key West including live on Duval Street and the inside of Sloppy Joe's Bar .

I went to my first FF this year. I am by no means what you’d consider conservative. I did however, have different expectations for this event. For the most part its a forum for older than middle aged exhibitionists to get naked and take pics of each other. I expected a younger crowd. I am 31 and found the crowd to be much older for the most part. If I had to guess I’d say mostly 40’s up. If a young lady happened to be willing to show some skin you better believe she had a crowd of old men snapping shots like they were at paparazzi try outs. Tongues hanging out and all. The streets were extremely crowded towards the end of the week.. Lots of fat, drunk, sweaty, naked old men and women staggering up and down Duval street looking for the next piece of meat to snap a shot at or get their pic taken with to show their friends back home. There are highlights to this festival and some fun times to be had for sure. I feel though that the creepiness of the drunk naked old people scurrying up and down Duval day and night over shadow the highlights. You will get solicited by other couples. We’re early 30’s I think decent looking and in shape. We were solicited every evening by out of shape nasty older folks. Yea sounds like a fair swap to me.. (not that I’d ever consider) but just saying. Key West for the most part is beautiful, not a lot for beaches but great restaurants some great snorkeling/diving. I’d go back to KW but never FF. Just my two cents.

I totally agree. It was not fun seeing 70 year old women naked…fat, and I mean FAT, men letting their buttons show (when they lifted their belly’s) I wasn’t even near naked, yet dieted down to 120 lbs for my Misstress Helga outfit and it’s pretty bad when I was told (many times) I was the hottest one there and I’m 54 and dressed….

This was my first Fantasy Fest as well.

Wow, listen to you people. You sound so superficial. Is it so wrong that “old” people want to let it all hang out and party? I’m so ever sick of the mainstream image that most of the US is after, which is the size 0 women who are barely 21.

It is true that there were some “pervs” out there. You’re going to get that in any ~80k(?) crowd of people. The vast majority of people I ran into and actually *met* were normal every day people.

BTW, I’m an early 30s something too. I had no problem with the “old fat people”. They were having fun, which I think is the point of the thing from what some locals told me.

I’m twenty-six years old and 2009 was my first Fantasy Fest. This was actually my first time experiencing ANYTHING like this – beads, body paint, boobs, the works! Wow. What a place to appreciate all different body types and even more so, appreciate people simply having fun. Some of us are young, some of us are old. Some are overweight and some are tip-top shape. Some are natural beauties, others have plastic surgery, and still others have a body that is probably only shown this one time a year. What an event to appreciate it all!

I been several times to Fantasy Fest, yes, you will see people of all types. While the first part of the week is mostly older people, of which I am, we are all still having one hell of a good time. The one thing that seems to ruin it is at the end of the week when most of the younger people come in, seemly made up of mostly drunk assholes who have no idea how to behave in public.

This was our first FF, and will not be our last. My wife and I are in our early 50’s, and in pretty good shape. I was blown away by the friendly, affirming nature of the locals and the crowd*. We had more fun and were in more pictures than I could have imagined. When I got home and looked at the pix, and realized my wife was having as much fun as me, we started making plans to go back next year. The only change we’ll make: we’ll come in the weekend before, and leave the Saturday of the parade. The parties early in the week were great, but by the final Friday and Saturday the young drunks showed up (reason for the asterik above.) Looking at the comments above, I’d like to see a roadblock set up on US 1, turning back anyone under 35. They don’t know how to party yet! (I’m kidding.) Key West–you did yourself proud! See you next year!
