Florida Homestead Exemption

Follow me on:

If you purchased a home and made it your primary residence by January 1st then you are eligible for a $25,000 exemption on your property taxes.  For homes assessed over $50,000 an additional exemption of up to $25,000 can apply.

If you are a new homeowner it is best to file for your Florida Homestead Exemption right away.  You must have your application no later than March 1st of the year in which you wish to start receiving the exemption.

Find out if you home qualifies for the Save-Our-Homes Exemption.  The Orange County Property Appraiser has put together information on Amendment 10 and how it works. This portability feature allows an individual to transfer the difference between the current assessed value and current market value of the home they are selling to the home that they will be buying, thus reducing the new assessed home value.
