First Thursdays

Every First Thursdays of the month from 6 to 9 p.m., you are invited to celebrate with themed art, friends, food and music at the Orlando Museum of Art.

Listen to the jazz and classical sounds of the Brian Petras Trio while enjoying tasty bistro fare from Harmoni Market, a handcrafted beer from Shipyard and Seadog Brewing Co. or wine poured by Premier Beverage Co, which will be available for purchase throughout the evening.

The Research Studio in the 21st Century
Maitland Art Center’s (MAC) family of artists, including faculty, staff and associates, will depart from the types of tradition-based art forms associated with MAC and create new, cutting-edge art works and art installations in the spirit of the Research Studio founded by André Smith in the 1930s (now called Maitland Art Center).

A to Z: Anthropomorphism and Zoomorphism
Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human forms or characteristics to non-human beings or objects, and zoomorphism is the use of animal forms in the same way. Think: personification of inanimate objects or abstract things such as emotions, machines, shape-shifters, the weather, cars, gods and goddesses, patterns using animal imagery, mythological beings, etc. Be imaginative!

Alternative Surfaces
This show will allow artists to go beyond frames and canvas to create art using unusual objects, oddities or recycled materials.
