'NSYNC millionaire?
On Wednesday, August 16, 2000, Orlando Mayor Glenda Hood presented one of the country's hottest boy-bands a key to the city while they were in town for the unveiling of a special 'N Sync - themed room at the Ronald McDonald House that was dedicated in their honor.
'NSYNC's five members originated from different parts of United States met in Orlando and formed one of the hottest dance-pop vocal groups ever. Four of the group's members got their professional start right here in Orlando. Joshua Chasez and Justin Timberlake first appeared together on the Disney Channel's Mickey Mouse Club, while working with another future pop sensation, Britney Spears. Orlando really brings in the talent! Following their three year stint as Mouseketeers, Josh 'J.C.' and Justin spent some time in Nashville developing their vocal talents while working on solo projects. The two returned to Orlando in 1996, where J.C. found employment at Universal Studios, just a few doors away from where Chris Kirkpatrick was filming the TV musical "Hollywood High Tones". While at Universal, the two hooked up with "Beetlejuice Graveyard Revue's" very own "Wolfman", Joey Fatone. Looking for a bass singer to complete their cappella quintet, Justin contacted his vocal coach in Memphis, and was given the number of Lance Bass.
By using the last letters of their first names, they came up with the name 'NSYNC. (Yes, they did rework and adjust a few of the names to achieve this feat. Lance became Lancton, Christopher became Chris, Joseph became Joey, Justin remained Justin, and Joshua became J.C.) Thus, 'N SYNC was born.
The group built their act around their strong cappella harmony and fancy dance moves. Their first album, produced just one year after the group was formed, simply titled 'NSync proved strong in Germany, then throughout Europe. By 1998, with success and confidence under their belts, the quintet headed back to America.
Their success continued with American audiences, with their first album selling over 10 million copies, and as recipients of the 1999 American Music awards 'best new pop/rock group'.
