Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

By , About.com Guide

BACKGROUND:

On December 17, 1925 the Embry-Riddle Company, founded by barnstormer John Paul Riddle and entrepreneur T. Higbee Embry, opened the Embry Riddle School of Aviation in Cincinnati, Ohio. After a decline in the 1930's, the demand for aviators and mechanics surged as World War II erupted. During W.W.II and the Korean War, allied nations sent large numbers of young men to Embry-Riddle's several Florida centers to be trained as pilots and aviation technicians. In 1965, Embry-Riddle consolidated its flight training, ground school, and technical training programs with a move to the current Daytona Beach location.

Today Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is the only accredited, aviation-oriented university in the world. This independent, nonsectarian, coeducational university serves a diverse student body seeking careers in aviation, aerospace, business, engineering, and related fields.

PROGRAMS:

The Daytona campus offers 23 undergraduate degrees, seven graduate degrees and three programs that combine bachelor's and master's degrees in a five-year accelerated process.

CAMPUSES:

Located adjacent to Daytona Beach International Airport, the university campus includes a new College of Business building, advanced flight simulators (up to commercial grade), air traffic control simulators, industry-standard engineering design labs and an extensive fleet of training aircraft.
