Downtown Orlando's indoor arena, currently known as the Amway Arena has gone through many name changes since it's inception in 1989. Known as the Orlando Arena from 1989 to 1999, then the TD Waterhouse Centre from 1999 to 2006, as The Arena in Orlando for less than a week in December of 2006 while it was waiting to become the present Amway Arena.
The venue, owned by the City of Orlando was built in 1989 has had it's claim to fame as the home to the NBA's Orlando Magic. Throughout the years, the has been host to concerts, arena football, ice skating shows, ice hockey and a multitude of other entertainment events. Each spring many high school graduations are held at the Amway Arena.
Amway currently has a 4 year lease on the rights of the center's name. Amway founder, Richard DeVos is the owner of the NBA team, the Orlando Magic.
Construction has been started on a new Orlando Events Center that is expected to be completed for the Orlando Magic's 2010 - 2011 season. Preview the progress of the new Orlando Events Center.
