Information about the Orlando Ballet:

  • Established in 1974, Orlando Ballet is the only professional resident ballet in the Greater Orlando area
  • The Orlando Ballet was formed in 1974 as The Performing Arts Company of Florida with 12 young, non-paid dancers and $4000
  • In 1978, the company changed its name to the Southern Ballet Theater and found a new home for local performances at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre.
  • In 1982, the company opened a ballet school to meet the growing demand for dance instruction.
  • In 2002, the company changes its name to Orlando Ballet
  • The company celebrates its 36th season during 2009-2010
  • Today, the Orlando Ballet School is home to over 1,250 students in four locations, and has trained some of the brightest young talent in the world of dance.
  • From England to Japan, Cuba to Canada, the Orlando Ballet boasts a vastly diversified company, representing more than 10 world cultures, including the United States, Korea, Cuba, Brazil, Mexico, Canada, Japan, the U.S. Virgin Islands, England and Romania.
