In December 2009 the organization was moved out of the Cultural Arts Center and moved all performances to the Athens Theatre.
The Athens Theatre is currently offering local presentations of Independent
films such as this year's Oscar nominated The Last Station, An Education and The
Messenger. They also offer an OPERA in CINEMA and BALLET in CINEMA series
in cooperation with Emerging Pictures. These are HD films of opera and ballet
performances filmed in famous theaters such as La Scala. In addition to these
series and other professional acts, the Athens Theatre is available for rental.
Sands Theater Center Inc. also consist of three local community
performing companies:
- Sands Theater Company - the Mainstage Group which recently performed Grease with 7 sold-out performances.
- Storybook Theater - a group staging and producing programs, classes and camps for and with children.
- Theater Center Touring Company - a community outreach company that
visits senior centers etc.
