Heart Healthy Month 2008

February is American Heart Month. With heart disease being the leading cause of death and disability among Americans, it's important to know where to find information on prevention of this disease in Central Florida.

Throughout the month of February, visit any Centra Care location, for free blood pressure screenings, have favorite recipes converted to heart healthier versions by submitting them to their website, or visit one of the Heart Month special events for:

• Free Professional Blood Pressure Screenings. Each participant will receive a Heart Card for their wallet that documents their initial reading and includes space for follow-up readings.
• Free Heart Print Screenings (resting EKG) A Heart Print helps identify various problems with the heart, including heartbeat abnormalities and diseases of the heart muscle.
• Medical Consultations to discuss questions or concerns related to the screenings.

There is no appointment needed for a blood pressure screening, however Heart Print Screenings are on a first-come basis. The following are the dates and locations for the special events:

• Saturday, February 16, 2008, 11 am – 2 pm: Oviedo Centra Care
• Monday, February 18, 2008, 11 am – 1 pm: Altamonte Springs Centra Care
• Wednesday, February 20, 2008, 11 am – 1 pm: Clermont Centra Care
• Wednesday, February 27, 11 am – 1 pm: Waterford Lakes Centra Care

The Orlando branch of the American Heart Association offers classes in CPR, printed information and first aid courses to benefit area residents and educate them on the importance of healthy living. The organization also hosts annual events to raise funds.
